How It Happened

A pair of individual marks and a team program record were broken during Penn State Harrisburg's 100-75 setback to Gwynedd Mercy at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Jan. 8.

Sophomore Kendis Butler buried a program-record 10 3-pointers en route to totaling 33 points, also a single-game program record. As a team, the Lions (3-7) connected on 18 3-balls on the night, besting the previous single-game mark of 16 set last winter.

Joining Butler in double figures was Anna Mahan. The sophomore scored 22 points, all of which came in the second half. Jayla Galbreath connected on three jumpers from beyond the arc to tally nine points, while Laurel Amey added five points, nine rebounds and six assists.

The Blue & White jumped out to a 9-2 lead following 3-pointers from Butler, Amey and Galbreath before stretching the advantage to 18-8 following a trio of treys from Butler late in the first quarter. The Griffins (5-7) responded with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 23-22 after the first 10 minutes.

The visitors opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run to take command of the action. Butler twice connected on jumpers from 3-point territory to cut the deficit to eight and ultimately was responsible for all 12 of Penn State Harrisburg's second-quarter points.

The start of the second half saw GMU extend its lead to 57-35 before Mahan started to come to life. She accounted for 12 Blue & White points in a row before closing out the period with her third 3-pointer of the quarter.

Butler reset the single-game program record when she knocked down her eighth 3-ball of the night late in the third quarter. Mahan's second-half surge continued when she eclipsed the 20-point mark midway through the fourth quarter and Butler surpassed the previous single-game scoring mark thanks to her 10th trey of the contest with 1:14 left to play.  

Inside the Numbers

- The teams combined to shoot 90 total 3-pointers on the night. Gwynedd Mercy ranks first in the country in 3-point attempts per game, while the Lions rank 13th.

- Penn State Harrisburg reset the program's single-game mark for 3-pointers made with 18.

- The Blue & White shot 37.5 percent from 3-point range and 38.8 percent from the field.

- GMU shot 43 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from deep.

- The Griffins outrebounded Penn State Harrisburg 56-41.

- The visitors scored 44 points off turnovers and 40 points in the paint.

- Gwynedd Mercy's bench outscored the Lions' reserves 55-5.

- Kendis Butler's historic night included a program-record 33 points, a program-record 10 3-pointers, eight rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal.

- Anna Mahan stormed to life in the second half and scored 22 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.

- Jayla Galbreath connected on three 3-balls, totaling nine points and dishing out six assists.
