How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg opened North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a dominant 78-56 win at Wells on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Lions (3-2) got off to a slow start, falling in an 8-0 hole, before Anna Mahan scored the team's first points on a layup. Mahan would connect on a three-pointer and another layup to pull the Lions back within five points midway through the opening quarter. Later in the first quarter, Macy Carroll and Kendis Butler each connected from beyond the arc, giving Harrisburg a 17-16 advantage. Mahan would add another three-pointer late in the quarter, as she scored 10 of her game high 26 points in the first quarter.

Harrisburg held a 22-19 lead entering the second quarter. After a couple of free throws, Laurel Amey connected on her first three-pointer of the game, pushing the Lions advantage to eight. Later in the quarter, Butler would connect on another three-pointer, this time drawing a foul and making a free throw to complete a four-point play. Butler scored 10 of her 20 points in the second quarter. The Lions would then go on a 16-1 run, powered by three's from Mahan, Butler, and Carroll to build a 20-point advantage heading into the half.

Wells College (0-7) could not find any answers in the second half, as Amey connected on a three pointer to open the second half. The Lions who made 13 three-pointers in the game, continued to grow the lead, leading by as many as 26 points in the third quarter. With the lead, head coach Ross Patrick capitalize on the opportunity to get some younger plays experience, as the Lions cruised to a 78-56 victory.

Inside the Numbers

- Anna Mahan filled the stat sheet recording a game high 26 points, with nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocks

- Kendis Butler scored 20 points, including making four three-pointers and shooting 6-7 from the free throw line.

- The Lions continued their outstanding three-point shooting, making 13 three's

- Macy Carroll provided a spark off the bench, scoring 15 points, while connect three times from beyond the arc

- Harrisburg won the battle on the glass, pulling down 42 rebounds

- Laurel Amey reached double figures scoring 10 points

- For Wells, Lorissa Parks led the Express with 16 points on 7-12 shooting
