How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg defeated Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Frostburg State 60-56 at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Feb. 6. The Lions had four scorers reach double figures, headlined by Rachel Miller's 16, including four 3-pointers.

Anna Mahan would get the Lions started in the first quarter, connecting on a pair of three's helping to build a six-point lead. Later in the quarter with the score tied at eight, Rachel Miller capitalized on an open three-point opportunity giving Harrisburg the lead back. The Blue & White's aggressive defense created a couple of turnovers allowing Kendis Butler and Laurel Amey to score a pair of layups and build a 15-10 lead heading to the second quarter.

Harrisburg would continue to control the game in the second quarter with Briana Davis draining a deep three followed by jumps shots from Shanique Mattis and Aireo Payne giving the Lions a ten point advantage. The Bobcats would answer going on a 9-2 run to close out the half, but Harrisburg still held a 24-22 lead at the break.

The Lions offense would roar out of the locker room powered by three-pointers from Miller and Amey, building the advantage to as large as 12 points midway through the quarter. The Bobcats as they did throughout the game would rally with a few timely baskets to pull level with Harrisburg with a minute remaining in the quarter. Miller recaptured some momentum for the Lions, scoring a layup with only eight seconds remaining in the quarter, giving Harrisburg a 47-45 lead entering the final quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Mattis drained a three-pointer to build the Lions lead to five. Free throws from Amey and Davis built the lead to seven, but the Bobcats managed to stay within striking distance. The Bobcats would close to within a single a point, but clutch free throw shooting allowed Harrisburg to keep the lead. The Bobcat would get final chance trailing by three points with under thirty seconds remaining in regulation. Davis would swat away the Bobcats desperation three-point attempt, with Amey gathering in the loose ball to secure the Lions victory.

Inside the Numbers

- Rachel Miller led the Lions with 16 points on 4-7 shooting from behind the arc

- Shanique Mattis recorded an impressive outing with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals

- Laurel Amey also scored 10 points while gathering in 8 rebounds

- Briana Davis scored 10 points of the bench, knocking down four clutch free throws

- The Lions bench outscored the Bobcat's 28-12

- The Bobcats were led by Amanda Emory who scored 15 points

- Harrisburg would capitalize on Bobcat's turnovers, scoring 22 points

- Harrisburg connected on ten three-pointers bringing their season total to 228, ranking them fifth nationally entering the game
