How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell to Gwnedd Mercy 78-67 on the road on Wednesday night. Shanique Mattis led the Lions with 22 points and eight rebounds. Laurel Amey had her best outing this season, scoring 18 points, including 4-8 shooting from behind the arc.

Harrisburg's offense got off to a hot start from beyond the arc, scoring 18 of their 20 points in the quarter from deep. Laurel Amey led the Lions making three of her first four three-pointers including a buzzer beater to pull with three points heading into the second quarter.

Rachel Miller tied the game at 23 early in the second quarter, when she knocked buried her first three-pointer of the game. Later in the quarter Amey would gather in a rebound of her own missed shot and hit a jump shot to give the Lions their first lead, 31-30. After the Griffin retook the lead, Harrisburg's Miller would close the quarter the way she started it, knocking down a three with only five second remaining in the half giving the Lions a 36-35 at the break.

The Lions shooting went cold in the second half allowing Gwynedd Mercy to recapture the lead midway through the third quarter. Mattis tried to rally the Lions, scoring 16 of her 22 points in the second half before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. The Griffins take advantage, capturing the 78-67 victory.
