How It Happened

After hanging tough for three quarters of play, Penn State Harrisburg ran out of gas in an 80-64 loss to Mary Baldwin in the championship game of the program's 2018 Pride. Spirit. Honor. Tournament at the Capital Union Building on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25.

Trailing by as many as 12 points early in the second half, the Lions (4-2) cut the deficit to a more-manageable five with 2:29 left to play in the third quarter following Briana Davis' second 3-pointer in as many trips down the floor.

The Fighting Squirrels (6-1) responded by scoring the game's next six points, putting pressure on the Blue & White heading into the final 10 minutes. The visitors put things out of reach for good when they opened the fourth quarter with 10 consecutive points, pushing their advantage to 18 with 3:59 remaining.

The Lions fell behind 12-5 to begin the game before ramping things up and drawing even at 19-19 when Kendis Butler buried a jumper from beyond the arc off a Laurel Amey assist at the 6:18 mark of the second quarter.

Momentum began shifting late in the first half when Harrisburg's early shooting prowess began to fade a bit, allowing the Squirrels to slowly and steadily build a double-digit lead before holding a 33-25 advantage heading into the break.
