Buena Vista, VA – Penn State Harrisburg Women's Basketball team could not overcome a strong second half effort from Southern Virginia falling in its road matchup. Shanique Mattis led the offense Lions in scoring with 17 points. Laurel Amey had one her best games of the season scoring 16 points and gathering 8 rebounds. Tessa Dolce posted another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

How it Happened:

The Lions got off to a strong start with Laurel Amey knocking down a three-pointer to start the game. Both teams would trade the lead throughout the first quarter, with the Knights using full court pressure to slow down the Lions attack. Rachel Miller would hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 17. The Lions offense would get going in the second quarter, going on an 18-9 run over the last 6:57 of the half. Janel Brown got the run started with a three-pointer. Shanique Mattis would add a pair of layups and Rachel Miller would hit another three-pointer giving the Lions an eight point advantage at the break.

 

Southern Virginia would use an 8-0 run to open the second half to tie the game at 38 midway through the third quarter. Amey would lead the Lions answer scoring 9 straight points to keep the Lions in contention. The game entered the fourth quarter with both teams deadlocked at 48. The Knights would open the final quarter with a 7-0 run to take control of the game. The Lions would try to climb back in the game and would cut the deficit to four with only 24 seconds remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback.
