Dolce Scores Career High 28 Points

Dover, DE – Penn State Harrisburg's Women's Basketball team would overcome a fourteen point halftime defect to force overtime against CAC foe Wesley. The Lions would fall in overtime, despite a career night from senior Tessa Dolce. Dolce scored a career high 28 points while gathering in 14 rebounds. Janel Brown also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

How It Happened:  

After trading a couple of early baskets, the Lions offense found some success in the first quarter lead by Janel Brown who hit a three-pointer to tie the game at ten. Laurel Amey would add a three-pointer of her to give the Lions a 13-10 lead heading into the second quarter. The Wolverines would dominate the second quarter, stifling the Lions offense going on a 20-3 to hold the lead entering halftime. 

 

The offenses got going midway through the third quarter. Briana Davis would knock down three three-pointers to get the offense going and Shanique Mattis would add one of her own. The Wolverines would answer with a couple of three of their own to hold the Lions at bay maintaining an eight point lead entering the final quarter. The Lions found themselves down nine with five minutes remaining when Tessa Dolce lead the comeback. Dolce would make five free throws and knock down to shots from the field to pull the Lions within one, 58-57 with 2:25 remaining. The Wolverines would knock down a free throw, to make it a two point game. With four seconds remaining, Mattis would draw a foul and hit two free throws to send the game to overtime.

 

Both teams would exchange free throws early in the overtime session, with the Wolverines building a four-point lead. Amey would drive the lane and score on the next possession to keep the Lions within striking distance, but the Wolverines continued making free throws down the stretch to secure the five point win.
