Reading, PA – Penn State Harrisburg used a strong team effort to defeat Alvernia University to pick its fourth straight win. Janel Brown scored a career high 20 points inclulding add three more three-pointers to her league leading total. Shanique Mattis also added 20 points to help power the Lions to the victory.

How it Happened:

Both teams would trade baskets early until Janel Brown knocked down a three-pointer to give the Lions a five-point lead. On the next possession, Briana Davis would find Laurel Amey for a lay up to extend the advantage. The Lions would the advantage for the rest of the quarter leading 17-12 enter the second quarter. The Crusaders would rally to get within a point midway through the second quarter. Harrisburg would get baskets two baskets from Jordan Wilson and another three-pointer from Brown to rebuild the lead. Brown would find Wilson in the closing seconds of the half for jump shot and she drew the foul, giving the Lions a 33-27 lead at the half.

 

The Lions would storm out of the locker room, with Shanique Mattis knocking down a pair of three-pointers and Brown adding her third three-pointer of the game to build a 13-point lead. The Crusader would close to within 7-points late in third quarter. The Lions would continue scoring in the fourth quarter with Tessa Dolce, Brown, Amey, and Wilson making shots as the Lions would build the lead to as many as 21-points.

Coach Thoughts: 

After the game, Head Coach Ross Patrick said, "The ladies closed the semester with a ton of energy these last two games and were able to secure two road victories. JB and Shanique went perfect vision with 20/20 and we shared the ball with 16 assists. We have had double digit assists in every game this season which shows how well this team shares the ball! Our focus when we return from break will shift to CAC conference play and the #2 team in the country in Christopher Newport. Let's Go Lions!!!!"

Penn State Harrisburg will be off for the Holiday Break, and will return to action on January 3rd when they travel to Christopher Newport.
