Middletown, Pa - Shanique Mattis had 16 points to go along with 7 rebounds, and helped push the Lady Lions (4-13, 2-8) to their second conference win of the season.  In a contest that never saw a lead grow beyond 10 points, it was the home team's determination and hustle throughout the game--and especially in the third quarter--that helped them to prevail.

Game Highlights

-Kaitlyn Carmo came into the game tied with former Lions Forward Steph Yetter with 1052 career points.  She broke the record at the 5:47 mark in the first quarter on her first free-throw attempt of the game.  Carmo finished the contest with 10 points and seven rebounds. 

-Freshman Raven Ransom played arguably her most dominating game of the season, finishing a point shy of a double-double, with nine points and a season-high 14 rebounds.  What really makes this game remarkable was that she was able to go toe-to-toe with the Capitol Area Conference's second-leading rebounder in 6'3'' Nina Haller.

-The unsung hero of the game may have been Sophomore Aireo Payne, who played 26 minutes off the bench and provided a spark for her teammates with two timely steals in the first quarter.  Her complementary role didn't fill up the stat sheet, but her energy throughout the game did not go unnoticed.

-It was a battle of turnovers for both teams from the beginning on in the matchup, with the Lady Lions edging out the Seahawks, 26-24  Their ability to put pressure on and double-team the opposing guards at key moments helped to feed into the momentum they were eventually able to create. 

-The third quarter was the home team's strongest of the game.  They came out of the locker room trailing 25-24, but a quick 12-1 run in the first five minutes of the second half gave them their biggest lead of the game, 36-26.

-The beginning of the 4th quarter saw momentum begin to shift in favor of the Seahawks, who managed to pull back within one and keep things close.  The Lady Lions never forfeited their lead, however.

-The final seconds of the game got tense when the Seahawks' Jane Mathiesen sunk a 3-pointer with 3.3 left on the clock to pull within two.  Carmo drew the foul on the ensuing play, sinking one of her two free throws and pushing the lead back up to three. 

-With two seconds remaining, the Seahawks' Nina Haller chucked up the half-court shot on a last ditch effort to tie the game at the buzzer.  The ball bounced off the rim as time expired, giving the home team the win.
