Harrisburg Falls to Mary Washington in Final Game

Middletown, Pa.- This afternoon the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team hosted Mary Washington in their final regular season game. The Lady Lions stayed strong throughout the first half but struggled to get points on the board in the second half. Mary Washington went on to win 67-49.

Harrisburg got off to a great start in the opening minutes as Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) and Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) combined for two straight three pointers. A few seconds later, Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) fought through through the paint for her first basket of the day, giving the Lions a four point lead. The Eagles responded with their first three of the game to step ahead for the first time. The Lions took back the lead at the start of the second quarter thanks to two straight jumpers from Carmo. Mary Washington fought back with a 5-0 run to lead 23-18 heading into the half.
 

The Lions came out hot at the start of third as Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) sank a three. Harrisburg struggled to get on the board for the next few minutes as the Eagles went on a 7-0 run followed by a 12-0 run with two minutes to go in the third. Mary Washington led at the end of the third, 49-30. Penn State Harrisburg battled back in the fourth quarter by outscoring the visitors, 19-18. The Eagles third quarter lead proved to be too much for the Lions. Carmo led for Harrisburg with ten points and three rebounds.

 

At the beginning of today's game, Penn State Harrisburg celebrated the careers of three seniors. Kiara Carter, Jasmine Yanich, and Lucky Snypse were recognized for their contributions over the last four years to the women's basketball program.  Penn State Harrisburg finished the regular season 10-15 overall, and 6-12 in conference play.
