Penn State Harrisburg Defends Home Court Against Salisbury

Middletown, Pa.- Monday February 1st, tonight the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team hosted Salisbury in a must win conference game. Earlier in the season, the Sea Gulls took home the win. Tonight, the Lady Lions led for the entire game and went on to win 53-41.

Harrisburg got an early lead on the visitors in the first three minutes of play. Freshman Brittany Ulrich (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) sank back to back buckets to put the Lions on top, 9-6. Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) followed in Ulrich's footsteps with her own four point run to give Harrisburg a seven-point lead with two minutes to go in the first. As the second quarter got underway, Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) hit two straight three's to put six points on the board for Harrisburg. The Lions led, 22-27, at halftime.
 
Harrisburg struggled to possess the ball in the opening minutes of the second half. Once the Lions began to settle down, Alexis Nolan (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) sank her first three pointer to give Harrisburg their biggest lead of the day, 34-24. As the final quarter began, Salisbury went on a six point run to try and tie the game up. Harrisburg stood strong defensively and continued to lead the game. With only 3:13 left, the Lions led, 40-38. As the clock counted down to only two minutes, Harrisburg had their biggest run of the day with seven straight points.  Carter led for the Lions with a double-double on the night at 14 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Penn State Harrisburg will hit the road on Wednesday February 3rd for an away game at Frostburg State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
