Harrisburg Comes Up Short Against York (Pa.)

Middletown, Pa.- Wednesday January 7th, tonight the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team battled York (Pa.) one of the top team's in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The women fought all the way through the fourth quarter but came up just short, falling to the Spartans 64-50.

 

Both teams put on a strong defense throughout the whole contest, each squad tallied TOTAL STEALS. Harrisburg started the game on a 5-0 stretch that lasted the first four minutes, led by a three pointer from Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area). The Spartans retaliated with their own 7-0 run to regain the lead at 7-5. Carmo finished out the quarter for Harrisburg with her second three of the day. The Lions lead was short lived thanks to a three pointer from York with only 1 second to go in the first. York led going into the second quarter, 14-13.

 

The Spartans started the second quarter off strong with a 9-0 lead to put them on top, 22-13, with less than five minutes until halftime. Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) came up big for Harrisburg with back-to-back baskets to trail the visitors by seven. The Spartans led Harrisburg, 24-19, going into halftime.

 

York came out hot in the third quarter, scoring 16 points and limiting Harrisburg to only six. The Spartans went on an 8-0 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter. The Lady Lions came out strong in the final quarter thanks to two straight jumpers from Brittany Ulrich (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon), putting Harrisburg 15 points behind York with eight minutes to go. Harrisburg went on a 6-0 run in the final minutes of the half to try and get back on top. Ulrich led for Harrisburg with a season-high 18 points. Defensively, Carter dominated the board with 15 rebounds.

 

Harrisburg will travel to Christopher Newport on Saturday January 30. The Lions will take on Newport, currently in second place, at 2 pm.
