Harrisburg Drops First Conference Game

Fredericksburg, Va.- Saturday December 5th, this afternoon the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team traveled to Mary Washington for their second conference game of the year. Harrisburg started the game off by leading twice throughout the first quarter but the Eagles lead in the second half proved to be too much for Harrisburg. Mary Washington won 79-55.

Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY / Milton Hershey) started the Lady Lions off strong by making two back to back layup's in the first few minutes. Fellow teammate Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) came up big with five straight points in the first quarter. Brown forced the Eagles to make a turnover below the basket and then went on to get a bucket for Harrisburg. Just a a few seconds later, Brown hit a three to give the Lions their second lead of the day. Although Harrisburg trailed at the end of the first, 17-11, Alexis Nolan (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) got the second quarter underway by making a lay up while also being fouled. Nolan's three points put Harrisburg only three points behind Mary Washington. The Eagles led, 38-27, going into halftime. 

Penn State Harrisburg struggled throughout the second half due to turn overs. The Lady Lions were only able to score 11 points in the third quarter while the Eagles had 24. Carter led for the Lady Lions with 10 points and nine rebounds. Lucky Snypse (Philadelphia, Pa. / George Washington Carver) was close behind with nine points and nine rebounds. 

Penn State Harrisburg is on the road once again on Wednesday December 9th. The women will face Salisbury at 5:30 pm.
