Lady Lions defeats Roadrunners in the Ramapo Tip-off Tourney

Mahwah, NJ.-  After a tough loss to Dickinson on Tuesday November 17th , the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team traveled to Ramapo college to face the Ramapo Roadrunners in the first round of the Ramapo tip-off tournament on Friday November 20th.  After a close game throughout the first half, the Lady Lions eventually went on and won the game by a score of 73-57.

After coming off a tough loss to Dickinson College on Tuesday November 17th, the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball traveled to Ramapo College to take on the Ramapo Roadrunners in the first round of the Ramapo Tip-off tournament on Friday November 20th.  The Lady Lions took the early lead thanks to an early three pointer from Senior guard Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township). But it didn't take long for Ramapo to get on the board thanks to pair of free throws to make it 3-2. From there on the Blue and White scored 13 points to take a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Leading 16-12 to start the second quarter, the Lady Lions increased their lead to seven thanks to a three point field goal by sophomore Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) to make it 19-12 but the roadrunners scored six unanswered points to cut the lead to one. Leading by just one, the Lady Lions increase their lead to five thanks to jumpers by freshmen point guard Brittany Ulrich (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon).  But Ramapo fought back to tie the game at 23 late in the first half.  Tied at 23, the blue and White scored five points to take a 30-28 lead at half time.  

The Lady Lions opened the third quarter with shots by Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra Area), Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY. / Milton Hershey), Alexis Nolan (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti), and Katie Schwenk (Lykens, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) to increase the lead to ten the end of the third quarter. Leading 49-39 to start the fourth, the Lady Lions increased their lead to 17 which was their largest of the game. Despite a strong comeback by the roadrunners, it wasn't enough and they eventually fell 73-57.  The Lady Lions will next be in action tomorrow November 21st when they play Old Westbury in the finals of the Ramapo tip-off tourney. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
