Penn State Harrisburg Dominates in Season Opener

Middletown, Pa.- Saturday November 14, the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team took on Franklin and Marshall for their first game of the 2015-2016 season. The women came out strong against Franklin and Marshall as a team and had several key individual performances. The Nittany Lions defeated the Diplomats 69-55.

In the first quarter, the Nittany Lions were trailing by four with two minutes to go. Senior guard Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) came up big with a three pointer to close the gap to only one point. The women trailed 11-12 at the end of the first quarter but due to two big three's in the second quarter from freshman Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) Harrisburg led 25-24 going in to halftime. The third and fourth arteries proved to be just as exciting for Harrisburg. By the end of the third quarter the Nittany Lions had extended their lead to 47-34. The women sealed their first victory of the season dues to a great team performance. Lucky Snypse (Philadelphia, Pa. / George Washington Carver) led for Harrisburg with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Close behind her was Yanich with 14 points and 4 rebounds while teammate Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) had 11 points and five rebounds. 

Up next for the women is a home game on Tuesday November 17th. Penn State Harrisburg will host non-conference opponent Dickinson at 6 pm.
