Lady Lions Tame Wolverines

Dover, De. – Looking to put a stop to their five game skid, Penn State Harrisburg used a balanced scoring attack to take down the Wesley College Wolverines on Wednesday January 14th.  The Lions picked up their third win in conference play and are now one win away from .500 in the grueling Capital Athletic Conference (CAC).

Penn State Harrisburg, determined to end their five game losing streak, came out with a defensive intensity that proved to be very successful early against the Wolverines.  The Blue and White held Wesley to a dismal 28% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc.  Harrisburg's tenacious defense also led to ten turnovers through the first twenty minutes of play.  The Lions led by as many as seven in the first half behind a strong performance by sophomore Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra Area) who tallied 7 of her  team leading 16 points in the first half.  Despite the strong start to the half, the Wolverines were able to claw their way back into the game by finishing the final six minutes on a 16-3 run to take a 29-27 lead at halftime.

The second half did not start the way Penn State Harrisburg had intended.  Falling behind by as much as 12 midway through the second half, the game looked all but over for the visitors.  Coach Patrick and the Lions did not give up hope and went back to what made them successful in the first half, playing defense.  The Blue and White used a 16-5 run to take their first lead of the half with a little under three minutes to play.  Tied in the final minute, freshman Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) sunk the game winning dagger with 19 ticks on the clock to seal the deal for the Lions as they went on to win 65-61.

The Blue and White used a balanced scoring attack to take down Wesley on the road Wednesday evening.  Four different Lions scored in double digits to give Harrisburg the edge.  Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY. / Milton Hershey) recorded another double-double by contributing 11 points and 13 rebounds while junior Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) added 10 points of her own in the victory.

Penn State Harrisburg will look to get back to .500 in the CAC when they welcome the Eagles of Mary Washington to town Saturday January 17th at 1pm for the second annual Orange 4 Owen double header at the Capital Union Building.
