Captains Take Command over Lions

Newport News, Va. - After a devastating two point loss at home Wednesday night against the Southern Virginia Knights, the Lions traveled to Christopher Newport to take on the Captains Saturday December 10th.  Unfortunately for the Blue and White, they were not able to bounce back as they fell to the Captains 77-52.

After a five hour drive to Newport News, Virginia, the Lions took the court against a tough Christopher Newport team who started today at the top of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) standings with a 9-3 overall record.  The Captains lived up to their impressive record as they jumped on Harrisburg early with a 14-0 run over the first nine minutes of play.  Try as they might, there was no coming back from the early attack of the Captains.  The Blue and White went into the half trailing 36-16.
The second half proved to be much of the same for the Captains.  Penn State Harrisburg trailed by as much as 41 in the second half.  Christopher Newport controlled the paint, outscoring the Lions 32-14.  Another key to the Captains success Saturday was the production of their bench who contributed 42 points in the victory.

Penn State Harrisburg was led by freshman Christine Mabry (Gaithersburg, Md. / Gaithersburg) who came off the bench to score 16 points in just twenty minutes of play.  Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY. / Milton Hershey) earned her third straight double-double adding 13 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's contest.

The Lions stay on the road for their next contest when they face the Wesley Wolverines Wednesday January 14th at 6pm.
