Lady Lions Let Lead Slip in Loss to Seahawk’s

St. Mary's City, Md. -The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions looked to start the 2015 portion of its season off with a victory on the road against a winless St. Mary's University.  The Seahawks had a different plan in mind as they came out with a huge second half rally to take down the Lions 69-52.

Following a three week break, Harrisburg seemed to be well rested as they started the game strong.  The Lions came out very aggressive.   Their outstanding defense effort transformed into easy buckets on the offensive end.  The Blue and White opened up a lead as big as 17-6 midway through the first half before allowing St. Mary's to cut the lead to four by halftime.

Unfortunately for the Lions, the tables turned in the second half.  St. Mary's found their form as Harrisburg struggled to put points on the board, shooting just 23% from the field.  The Seahawks outscored Harrisburg 40-19 in the second half to cruise to a 17 point victory.

Leading the way for the Lions was Freshman Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder), who scored a career high 18 points and 14 rebounds in the defeat.  Junior Jasmin Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) continued to show her maturity on both ends of the court and chipped in with 10 points of her own.

Penn State Harrisburg will head home to face Immaculata on Monday January 5th, before jumping into the bulk of their conference play beginning with hosting Southern Virginia Wednesday January 7th.
