MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team did not just want the win over Frostburg St. University; the Lions claimed it with forty minutes of relentless effort on both ends of the court.  The hard working attitude helped Harrisburg to get their first ever Capital Athletic Conference win, beating the Bobcats 90-82. 

The Lions were able to set the tone right from the start thanks to Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra) who scored the game's first five points during an early 7-0 run.  Frostburg was able to get some momentum going, but it was stopped cold when the Bobcats starting point guard picked up a loose ball foul.  She then allowed her mouth to add two more shots from the charity stripe thanks to the technical foul that was called after the initial foul.  Harrisburg took advantage and scored all four foul shots pushing their lead to 21-10 with 8:26 to play. 

Harrisburg was able to build their lead to 17 after Paulette Williams scored her first two points of the game.  The Bobcats answered with a 17-5 run to in just over four minutes to have the game within five with just 31 seconds to play in the half.  The Blue and White used a layup and again went 4-4 from the line in the final stretch to build an extra cushion and went into halftime up 41-30. 

Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna) scored one of her three made shots from downtown to start the second half.  Molly Burke (Dunmore, Pa. / Dunmore) used an old school three point play to give Harrisburg their biggest lead of the night 67-47.  The Lions have made it a bad habit this season by allowing big leads to slip away in the middle to late portion of the second half.  Unfortunately tonight the trend continued.

With 7:27 to play and Harrisburg up by twenty, turnovers and a loss of concentration gave Frostburg St.  the opening they had been waiting for.  The used the next four minutes to go on a 12-0 run and bring the game within striking distance.  The Lions turned back up the intensity and regained their composure to finish the game in relative ease, despite the Bobcats final push, and earned their first ever CAC win 90-82. 

The key stat of the night had to be free throws.  Harrisburg was an impressive 23-25 in the first half and 8-10 in the second.  Frostburg also shot well from the line by going 23-28 in the game, but the additional eight made free throws proved to match the game difference for Harrisburg.  Freshman point guard Rebecca Bailey (Tobyhanna, Pa. / Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg) led the team in scoring tonight with seventeen, going and impressive 11-11 from the charity stripe. 

Junior Guard Hannah Jorich (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) led the team in assists with five while and Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y. / Milton Hershey) , this season known as double-double Carter, won the battle of the boards grabbing 15 rebounds to match her point total. 

Harrisburg has a short trip this Friday to face their former conference rival Lancaster Bible before getting two weeks off for the Holiday break.
