Softball Sweeps Morrisville, Sets New Program Wins Record

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -  Penn State Harrisburg's softball team made history on Sunday afternoon, setting a new program record for wins in a single season thanks to a doubleheader sweep at SUNY Morrisville. The Lions took game one 10-1 to break the wins record before building on it with a 15-0 victory in the second contest.

GAME 1

Less than 24 hours after sweeping SUNY Morrisville (3-24, 3-16 United East) in a conference doubleheader at Courtney Pollock Memorial Field, Penn State Harrisburg (22-9, 16-3 United East) did it again on Sunday afternoon.

In a 10-1 victory in the first outing, Steph Reider went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored, while Madelyn Lehigh, McKenzie Boozel, Lauren Hess, and Krysten Moore also had multi-hit games. Carissa Yeager struck out four en route to earning the win inside the circle.

The Lions took advantage of a Morrisville error and scored the game's initial run in the top of the second before tacking on two more in the third. The Blue & White did most of their damage in the fourth, however, using six hits, two walks, a hit by pitch, and another error to plate six runs in the stanza.

The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the fourth but the visitors answered back with another in the top of the fifth when Moore's two-out single drove in Madeline English

GAME 2

Penn State Harrisburg (23-9, 17-3 United East) claimed its second doubleheader sweep of SUNY Morrisville (3-25, 3-17 United East) in as many days with a 15-0 shutout in the second outing on Sunday afternoon.

Mary-Kate Pencakowski struck out six batters inside the circle and allowed just one hit in picking up the win. Steph Reider and Samantha Weaver each went 3-for-4, while Emma Einarson also had a three-hit game with a pair of doubles.

Einarson's first double drove in Madelyn Lehigh in the top of the first but the Lions put up their first crooked number three stanzas later, as the visitors used six hits and an error to tally four runs in the top of the fourth.

The fifth saw the Blue & White add two more but it was the team's eight-run sixth inning that allowed Penczkowski to put the finishing touches on things in the bottom half and end the game early.
