How It Happened

After a three-hour rain delay, the Penn State Harrisburg Softball team battled former Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley. The Lions would get their offense going in the second inning, starting with a leadoff double by Allison Hartman. After Hartman stole third and Dominique Emmett drew a walk, Carlee Gochenaur lifted a single into center field, giving the Blue & White the early lead. Later in the inning with runners on first and second base, Kaylee DeMatteo blasted an RBI double into right center field, putting the Lions ahead 2-0.

Harrisburg would strike again in the third inning. Singles by Nina Bruno and Emmett put runners in scoring position for Gochenaur. She would again deliver with an RBI single putting the Lions ahead 3-0.

The Wolverines would claw back in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a Lions error to score their first run of the day. Lion's ace Allison Hartman would get the Lions out of the inning, forcing a popup to third base for the third out. Hartman controlled Wesley for most of the day striking out six batters while allowing on four hits.

Wesley threaten to cut into the lead in the sixth inning. With two outs and runner on third base, Allison Hartman struck out Amanda Curry, but the pitch got away from catcher Emmett. Emmett gathered the loose ball got the throw to first base just in time to record the out and keep the Wolverines from scoring. Hartman would retire all three batters in the final inning securing the win.
