Penn State Harrisburg Wins Six Straight to Close out Spring Break Tourney

Myrtle Beach, SC. – The Penn State Harrisburg softball team will be returning home from their trip to Myrtle Beach South Carolina with a feeling of accomplishment.  After starting their season 0-2, the Lions have won six straight, including wins Tuesday March 10th against MacMurray and Mt. Aloysius.

Harrisburg was able to cruise through their first game of the day beating MacMurray 6-1 before heading into the second contest of the day to face off against the Mt. Aloysius Mounties.  The Lions found out early that they were not going to be able to ease through their second game like they had the first.

Mount Aloysius scored two runs in the top of the first inning and followed it up by shutting out the Lions offense for the first two innings.  Finally in the bottom of the third, the Blue and White found their swing.  Keriann Saich (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) used her double to score Kayla Seyfert (Lebanon Pa. / Cedar Crest) to tie the game at 2-2.  Gabrielle Wolfe (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) then brought in Seyfert to take the lead thanks to a near inside the park homerun in which Wolfe was caught at the plate.

With the Mounties down 4-2, they responded immediately scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  The Lions were up for the challenge and tied the game in the bottom of the inning while adding an additional run in the sixth to hold on for the thrilling win.

Erelle Sowers (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton Area) and Jackie Furch (Hallstead, Pa. / Blue Ridge) both had stellar games, each went 2-3 from the plate.  Wolfe pitched a complete game for the win, striking out five.

The Lions will leave Myrtle with their heads held high after a 6-2 start to their season.  Not bad considering it was the first time the women have been outside all spring.  Penn State Harrisburg gets a few days off before traveling to Penn State Abington on Thursday March 19th
