Penn State Harrisburg Wins Two at Myrtle

The Penn State Harrisburg softball team only needed a day to get back to .500 on the year after starting out 0-2.  The Lions won two exciting games over Penn College and Ursinus on Sunday March 8th, in just their second day of playing outside this spring.

Penn State Harrisburg's first wins did not come easy.  Their first contest against local foe Penn College allowed the Lions to breathe a little after claiming a 9-5 win.  Earning their first win of the year is always crucial and allowed the Blue and White to relax just enough to find a rhythm in their second game against Ursinus.

It didn't take long for the Blue and White to put themselves into another winning position in their second outing, scoring four runs in the first inning alone.  Ursinus responded with force in the second inning, scoring five runs to take the lead right back.

The Lions found themselves down 7-4 going into the bottom of the third when Emily Parmer's (Willow Street, Pa. / Solanco) double to center field helped score two runs.  Jenna Rupakus (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) also doubled to center field in the fifth inning, scoring one run which was followed up by Kayla Seyfert's (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) single that scored Rupakus.

Penn State Harrisburg was able to close out the game in the sixth thanks to an additional 3 runs, which gave the Lions an 11-7 lead with only three outs needed for another victory.  The Bears kept it interesting scoring two runs in the final inning, but the Blue and White closed out the game for the 11-9 win.

The Lions will play another double header on Monday March 9th against SUNY IT and Iowa Weslyan.
