Lions Drop Both in Softball Season Opener

Lions Drop Both in Softball Season Opener

Myrtle Beach, Sc. - Penn State Harrisburg kicked off their 2015 campaign on the shores of Myrtle Beach. Unfortunately, they didn't get the start they hoped for as they fell to Messiah College 9-1. The Blue and White weren't able to turn things around in the second leg of their double header Saturday March 7th, getting shut out 11-0 by Rowan University.

After a slow start in their season opener against Messiah College, Penn State Harrisburg looked to turn things around in their second game of the day, this one against Rowan University.

Rowan were able to get the bats going early and often as they jumped on the Lions in the bottom of the first inning where they tallied five of their 11 runs.  They continued the hot start into the second inning where they added four more runs and built a comfortable lead after just two innings of play.  Harrisburg, on the other hand struggled to find any source of offense and was not able to muster any form of a comeback. Rowan went on to win the contest 11-0.

Sophomore right-hander Amanda Hartman (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley) did what she could on the mound to keep the Blue and White in the game, but the firepower of Rowan was just too much.

Penn State Harrisburg will hope to pick up the first win of the season Sunday March 8th when they take on Penn College at 9:30am followed by a matchup with Ursinus at 11:30am.
