Nick Sturm Leads Way For Harrisburg

Lebanon, Pa. – Harrisburg's men's and women's cross country team participated in their first race of the season Saturday September 6th at the LVC Invitational.  Nick Sturm (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) led the way for the Lion men, while Rachel Sechrist (Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) led things for the women.

The Blue and White men showed some promise finishing 8th out of 11 teams.  Sturm placed 23rd overall with a time of 29:49.43 followed shortly by Edgar Makimoto who came in 38th at the 31:00.19 mark.

"Our men raced well despite a very humid and hot 90 degree morning. Our coaching staff was able to get great data from this competition to help with training planning", said head coach Danielle Lynch.  "We have some great returners and nice additions from some newcomers."

The women did not finish quite as well, but everyone worked hard from start to finish.  Sechrist came in at the top for the lions with a 24:22.89 good enough for 59th overall.

"I am very proud of our growing ladies team and the culture that we are building within our program. We have two returners to lead the way for our new comers in our pack style training and racing strategy", coach Lynch said following the race.

Lebanon Valley took the team win on the women's side and Messiah College edged out the home team on the men's side.  Both Harrisburg cross country teams will run Saturday September 13th at the York Invitational.
