The Men's Cross Country team traveled to Salisbury Maryland this weekend for their conference championship meet. Salisbury's course is a generally flat course with altering terrain. The Lions, just newborn cubs to the Capital Athletic Conference, were ready to pounce off the starting line. Surrounded by the fierce opposition the men sprung off the line as the gun went off.
Nick Sturm, not intimidated by the strong competition, finished first for the team and attained a personal best time. Sturm proved his resilience was he worked his way to a 28:19 finish was good enough for 62nd place and earned him 39 points. The Freshman closed out the year finishing first for the Lions in every race.
Tyler Fry, in the Superman socks, finished his home stretch faster than a speeding bullet to give him a time of 30:32. Several opposing runners fell victim to Fry's second wind as he stole 87th place. He earned 49 points for the Lions. He ran with his teammates as a pack for most of the race, but took off for the finish at the end.
Edgar Makimoto's drive and determination help keep his Lion Pack strong and put him exactly thirty seconds behind Fry, giving him the time of 31:02 and the fourth slot on the team. He finished 94th overall and claimed 51 points for his team. Makimoto, always giving his best in everything he does, was a consistent and reliable asset to the team this year.
The Lions finished the championship meet in 8th place, finishing ahead of Wesley. They were mere points from overtaking Marymount. Penn State Harrisburg had their most successful season to date under the direction of first year Head Coach Danielle Lynch and Assistant Coach Dan Barlet. The Lions will be headed to Lehigh University for their NCAA Regional meet on November 16th.
