Two Compete in Last Chance Qualifiers

Penn State Harrisburg men's track and field team sent two to compete over the weekend in last chance qualifiers so they can qualify for the ECAC Outdoor Championship this upcoming weekend.

Joey Phifer (Union, N.J / Union) traveled this past Friday to University Park, Pa to compete in the Jim Thorpe Open hosted by Penn State University. Phifer competed in the 800 Meter run to try to knock off a second off his best time from the CAC Championships. Competing against Division I competition Phifer was able to place 3rd out of seven runners in the race while shaving more than three seconds off his best time, finishing with a mark of 1:53.00 qualifying him for this weekend's ECAC Outdoor Championships.

Competing Monday May 11th , Josiah Owhe (Westbury, N.Y. / Westbury) traveled to Swarthmore College to compete in the Swarthmore Final Qualifier. Owhe competed in both the 100 meter and long jump just missing the ECAC qualifying standards in both events. Missing the 100 meter qualifying time by .48 seconds and coming up .43 meters short in the long jump. With one year under his belt Owhe will look to continue his good first year of competition next year when he looks to make waves in his senior year.

Phifer becomes the first track and field athlete to qualify for the ECAC Outdoor Championships in program history. Look for Phifer to finish the year on a high note Friday May 15th with his event set to start around 2:05 p.m.
