Phifer Sets Bar at ECAC Championships

New York City, Ny. – Sophomore Joey Phifer (Union, N.J / Union) has been a star for the Lions Track & Field team this year as well as a consistent top finisher meet after meet.  Phifer's leadership on and off the track has opened eyes across the Capital Athletic Conference and region, showing that he comes to compete every single day.  He backed this up by earning a spot in the ECAC Championships March 6th and 7th in New York City.

Not just anyone can show up and compete at the ECAC finals.  Participants are invited to New York to compete based off their finishes throughout the indoor season.  Phifer was the only member of the Penn State Harrisburg team to be invited to compete.

Joey turned heads at the CAC Championships on February 21st when he finished tied for second overall in the 800 meter.  Phifer finished in a dead heat with the current CAC record holder in the 800 meter and just .28 of a second behind the first place finisher.

Phifer was able to bring home a 13th place finish in the 800 meter at the ECAC championship where he competed against the best of the best in the region.  He also was able to bring some recognition to the first year Penn State Harrisburg program while setting the bar high for future athletes looking to make their name on the Lions Track & Field team.

A proud Head Coach, Danielle Lynch, had this to say about Joey's performance, "I am extremely proud of Joey and the work he put in to represent Penn State Harrisburg on a new stage at the ECAC Championship. His commitment to improving paid off and we are excited to see how much more time he will shed come outdoor season."

Penn State Harrisburg will begin the outdoor portion of their 2015 season Saturday March 21st when Phifer and the rest of the Lions will travel to West Chester University to compete in the Golden Rams Invitational.  The only way to go is up for the first year track & field program and it looks as if Phifer will be leading the way.
