Phifer and Gould Finish Near Top  at CAC Indoor Championships

Newport News, Va. – Penn State Harrisburg Traveled to Christopher Newport University to compete in their first ever Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.   

Joseph Phifer (Union, N.J / Union) lead the way for Harrisburg by finishing tied for 2nd place in the 800 meter run with a 1:56.61. Phifer finished in a dead heat with senior and current CAC record holder in the 800-meter, Thomas Burke and just .28 of a second behind the winner, Jeffrey Dover of Christopher Newport who finished with a 1:56.33.

On the Women's side Katlin Gould (Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) had top finishes in both the 200-meter and the pole vault. In the 200 meter Gould finished 10th with a 27.09 that was .77 of a second behind the winner of the event Elizsha Streeter who won the CAC title with a 26.32. She also finished 3rd in the pole vault with a 3.25 meter (10 feet, 8 inches) jump. Gould lost to Claire Harrington from Mary Washington who set a CAC record, jumping 3.45 meters (11 feet, 3.75 inches).

With both teams finishing 7th of 7 teams scoring 6 points each, the Lions have room for improvement. With the Indoor season coming to a close both teams will start looking towards the outdoor season where they will look to continue their inaugural season and keep their success going when they go outside.
