Xue and Magee Come Up Big at ITA Tournament

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Penn State Harrisburg took part in the ITA Tournament at Mary Washington this past weekend on Friday, Sep. 27, Saturday, Sep. 28 and Sunday, Sep. 29.  The Lions' biggest winner of the three-day session was the pairing of freshmen Johnny Xue (Blue Hill, Maine / George Stevens Academic) and Chris Magee (Westminster, Md. / Manchester Valley).  The duo emerged victorious in its B3 Doubles final on Sunday morning. 

Xue and Magee drew York (Pa.) College's Kaltrin Bullaj and Jake Greenstein in their first round match on Saturday morning and dispatched of the Spartans' pair by an 8-5 margin.  Later that evening, the Blue & White duo took on Ferrum's Tyler Lee and William Sharp.  Once again, Penn State Harrisburg's grouping came away with the win, this time by a score of 8-1.  Finally, Xue and Magee were awarded their final match victory over Southern Virginia's Zac Bowers and Cooper Brown. 

   

The Lions' top pair of sophomore Ben Leibig (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) and senior Tyler Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) fell in the opening round of the B1 Doubles bracket to Susquehanna's team of Shane and Shanon Gunther while Penn State Harrisburg's duo of sophomore Alex Koltun (Mount Gretna, Pa. / Cedar Crest) and senior Vincent Lepore III (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset) picked up a win in the B2 Doubles consolation championship when the men were awarded a victory over York (Pa.) College's Daniel Erk and Nate Hoskins 8-0. 

Both Xue and Leibig reached the consolation semifinal round as individuals while Koltun fell in the B5 Singles consolation final.  Magee and Lepore actually faced each other in the B7 Singles consolation championship with Magee picking up the narrow victory by a 9-7 margin. 

Penn State Harrisburg will next be in action this Saturday, Oct. 5 when the Lions head to Susquehanna for their first team match since their season-opening victory on Sep. 17.
