Bridgewater (Va.) Strikes Late to Down Men's Soccer

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team had its chances but was unable to find the back of the net in a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Bridgewater (Va.) on Wednesday night, Sept. 11.

The Lions (2-2-1) seemed to dominate the ball throughout the contest, as they topped the Eagles (4-1-2) in total shots 9-3. Bridgewater ended up on top, however, thanks to 74th-minute marker by Trey Widrick off an assist from Ashby Barbee.

Nine minutes into the contest, Penn State Harrisburg's Alex Afata nearly gave the home team the lead but his attempt was turned away by Eagles goalkeeper Charles Schweinefuss. The Blue & White saw their second and final significant shot on goal during the 65th minute, with a strike by Jordan Perkins that was rejected once again by Schweinefuss.

Penn State Harrisburg was plagued by yellow cards once again, three of which were issued in the second half, and thereby halted any possible momentum that the Blue & White could have gained late in the game.

NOTABLES

- Ricardo Bustamante led the Blue & White with two shots on the night.

- Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Shannon Kashi earned a save during a full 90 minutes of play.

- Despite the loss, the Lions led the contest with nine total shots.

- Five yellow cards were issued during the course of the match, four of which were against the home team.
