How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg pitched its third shutout in as many outings, blanking Gallaudet 3-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play at Nittany Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28.

The Lions (7-3, 4-0 NEAC) netted the game's opening goal late in the first half before tacking on a pair of insurance tallies after halftime. The home team dominated possession for much of the day and finished with major advantages in total shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks.

A foul in the box by the Bison (0-8-1, 0-4-0) led to a Joey Aman goal in the 30th minute and the Blue & White took a one-score advantage into the break.

After 20 minutes of scoreless soccer in the second half, Toma Nichik doubled the Penn State Harrisburg advantage when he headed his attempt past Gallaudet goalkeeper Shane Angel in the 75th minute. Mohamed Kotby assisted on the goal.

The Bison committed their second foul in the box on the afternoon less than 10 minutes later and Alexander Wardle made them pay by tallying the Lions' third goal of the contest, capping the scoring and ending any hope of a GU comeback in the 83rd minute.

Inside the Numbers

- The shutout victory was the fifth of the year for the Blue & White.

- The Lions finished with a 21-to-4 advantage in total shots and a 14-to-1 edge in shots on goal.

- Penn State Harrisburg racked up 12 corner kicks. The Bison managed just two.

- Joey Aman is starting to heat up. He's now scored a goal in three consecutive games and four out of the last five contests.

- Toma Nichik's marker was his first of the season.

- Mohamed Kotby registered his first point of the fall thanks to his helper on Nichik's goal.

- Alexander Wardle netted his first goal of the year.

- Nicholas Guglielmetti made one stop in goal to earn his seventh victory of the season.

- GU goalkeeper Shane Angel made 10 stops in a losing effort.
