How It Happened

Behind a strong defensive effort, Penn State Harrisburg shut out North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn State Abington 1-0 at Nittany Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon to secure the team's fourth victory in a row.

The Lions (6-3, 3-0 NEAC) remained perfect in conference play thanks to Joey Aman's game-winning goal midway through the first half. The forward received a feed from teammate Shammah Gahomera and put his attempt past Penn State Abington goalkeeper Esteban Leon in the 25th minute.

The Blue & White defense was stout for much of the game and kept the visitors (2-4, 1-2 NEAC) from attempting a shot during the opening half. Penn State Abington finally got a good look at a potential equalizer following a corner kick in the 73rd minute but goalkeeper Nicholas Gulglielmetti made a diving save on an Alex Swiderski drive to keep the lead intact.

The visitors put together one last push in the final five minutes, with Jose Palomeque managing an attempt on frame in the 86th minute but again Guglielmetti shut the door and preserved the advantage. Penn State Harrisburg absorbed a hard foul in the final minute and held on to secure the valuable NEAC victory.

Inside the Numbers

- The victory was the Lions' fourth shutout of the year.

- Penn State Harrisburg finished with slim advantages in both total shots (5-4) and shots on goal (3-2).
