How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg's 2018-19 season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion when the team fell 1-0 to Wesley in a double-overtime thriller in the opening round of the ECAC Championship Tournament on the campus of Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. On Friday night, Nov. 9.

After 102 minutes of defensive struggles and scoreless action, Wesley's Danny Garza netted the only marker of the contest with a blast into the top left corner of the goal that ended the game with 7:42 remaining in the second extra session.

The Lions (14-4-4) had a number of scoring chances, particularly in the first half. The Blue & White appeared to get on the board first when Joey Aman finished off a nice feed in the opening minutes but the apparent goal was waved off due to an offside call. He had another good look at a go-ahead score when a cross into the box got past Wolverines' goalkeeper Kyle Springsteen and found his feet but the ball deflected away before he could get off a shot.

Harrisburg had five corner kick opportunities in the second half but only one resulted in getting a shot off. That attempt came in the 86th minute but Luis Velasco's shot sailed high.

Wesley (15-4-1) had a chance to end things in regulation when Tyler Killenbeck headed an attempt towards the Blue & White goal with 1:23 remaining but goalkeeper Nicholas Guglielmetti was there to make the stop.
