How It Happened
As it has for the majority of the season, Penn State Harrisburg's defense shined in a scoreless, double-overtime draw with Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Salisbury at Nittany Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 6.
The battle between a pair of teams both receiving votes in the latest D3soccer.com Top 25 poll predictably saw the momentum swing back and forth between each squad on a number of occasions over the course of the contest.
Christian Schmoyer opened the second extra session with a header that was on target but SU goalkeeper was in position to make the save. Ethan Hoover corralled a loose ball near the Seagulls' box and got off a decent look with 1:25 remaining but his attempt sailed high, allowing Salisbury (8-1-2, 1-0-1 CAC) to escape with a tie.
The Lions (12-1-1, 0-1-1 CAC) were aided by the stellar play of goalkeeper Nicholas Guglielmetti down the stretch, as the team's last line of defense made a pair of stops in the first overtime session to keep things scoreless.
Harrisburg was aggressive out of the gate, putting pressure on the visitors and racking up five corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes. From there, each team got off one attempt in the 25 minutes remaining until halftime, with neither squad finding twine before the break.
