Overtime PK Ends Lions ECAC Title Hopes

Overtime PK Ends Lions ECAC Title Hopes

Lebanon, Pa. The Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer team dominated play in their first two Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoff games earning them a spot in the final four after a 4-1 win over Altoona in the sweet sixteen and a 2-0 win over Alfred in the quarterfinal.  Unfortunately, Harrisburg's impressive run ended Saturday November 19th as an overtime penalty kick was all that separated the Lions and Drew University.

The Result:

Drew University 1 vs. Penn State Harrisburg 0

Penn State Harrisburg Starters:

Brandon Hoover, Weaver, Ethan Hoover, Panuccio, Vilga, Ikeazor, Elnahrawy, West, Brown, Anthony Saye, Rohrbach

Drew Starters:

Inside the Numbers:

  • Team Records: Penn State Harrisburg (13-9, 5-4 CAC) vs Drew (13-5-3)
  • Shots: Harrisburg 9 vs Drew 15
  • Shots on Goal: Harrisburg 6 vs Drew 9
  • Corner Kicks: Harrisburg 3 vs Drew 6
  • Saves: Harrisburg 3 vs Drew 6

How it Happened:

  • Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first half while Dew took the shot advantage 7-3.  Harrisburg had multiple goal scoring chances, including a shot from 4 yards out that just missed wide with the final seconds of the half.
  • Justin Elnahrawy had the best second half effort after a great through ball from Ethan Hoover created a 1v1 opportunity with the Drew keeper who matched the effort and kept the score 0-0.
  • The Lions outshot Drew in the second half, but neither team could find the net and forced an overtime period to determine the winner.
  • Unfortunately, despite a well-played game from both teams, in the end it was a called penalty kick in the first overtime period that separated the two teams and sent Drew to the ECAC Finals.

Thoughts from Coach K:

"I am really proud of the guys and the effort the men put forth the past two weeks.  Our seniors stepped up and proved their importance while refusing to end their collegiate careers without a fight to the end."
