Miller Scores Twice In Victory Over Chargers

Middletown, Pa. – The Blue and White men's soccer team has kept all their games close this season but has struggled to win the tight games.   The Lions started todays contest against the Lancaster Bible Chargers with 2-3 record in hopes of getting the win anyway they needed and being .500 after the 90 minute match.

Harrisburg started the game in control by keeping their touches limited and the ball moving from side to side.  It only took 13 minutes for the Lions to strike early thanks to the combined effort of a Justin Henderson (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) pass and Jonathan Vanaskie (Shamokin, Pa. / Shamokin) strike that found the back of the net.  Just 7 minutes later Tommy Miller (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) buried a PK to put Harrisburg up 2-0.

The Blue and White appeared to be completely in control until one dangerous ball bounced just over the defensive line and in front of the goalkeeper perfectly for a Lancaster Bible forward who headed the bouncing ball over the Lion goalkeeper to tighten things up.

Going into halftime 2-1 gave the Chargers hope that they could salvage some points out of the game.  That thought vanished in a moment when Jon Willingham (Harrisburg, Pa. / Sci-Tech High) chose not to take his open shot and instead made the most selfless pass of the season setting up Isaac Amedza (Philadelphia, Pa. / Samuel Fels) for an easy tap in goal after the amazing through ball.

Miller added another memorable goal, hitting a 20 yard ripper into the top left corner for his second goal of the day.  The lions did a great job keeping their team shape and playing limited touches to move the ball throughout the game.  The finishes were well earned and fun to watch, but the overall play was impressive.

Harrisburg returns to action Tuesday when they head to face off against a strong McDaniel who is coming off their first loss, but sits with an impressive 5-1-1 record.
