Three Named to CAC All-Conference Team

YORK, Pa. - Christopher Newport landed five golfers on the 2016 All-CAC Golf Team and swept the major awards after capturing its third consecutive conference title April 15-17 at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va.

CNU senior Sam Robinson became the third straight Captain to claim Player of the Year honors as he finished with a three-day total of 229 (+13) to grab a three-stroke victory. He joins former teammate Jonathan Howard (2014) and current teammate Matt DiSalvo (2015) as individual champions and CAC Players of the Year. This marks Robinson's third straight appearance on the All-CAC squad after earning first team honors in 2014 and second team accolades in 2015.

Along with Robinson, freshman Joey Corlett and DiSalvo, a senior, also made their way onto the All-CAC first team for the Captains. It was the third-straight first-team award for DiSalvo, while Corlett was named Rookie of the Year as the top newcomer with his second-place individual finish. Second-team recognition was earned by junior Harry Nodwell and freshman David Rabil. Nodwell was a first team honoree in 2015.

Jamie Coleman, who guided the Captains to the first-ever NCAA automatic bid in conference history with the team title, was selected by his peers as the 2016 CAC Coach of the Year. Coleman has now won the honor three straight years.

Second-place Marymount earned four spots on the All-CAC team - the highest number of honorees ever for the Saints. Juniors Cody Jameson and Keegan Boone were first-team performers, while fellow juniors Mason Carmel and Kyle Weitendorf received second-team recognition. This marked the first all-conference recognition for all four Saints.

A trio of Penn State Harrisburg golfers were repeat All-CAC selections - senior Tyler Massar, sophomore Keith Miller, and junior Tyler Shank - with all three earning second-team honors. Massar claimed his second-straight secondteam award, Miller was on the first team in 2015, and Shank earned All-CAC honors for the third time. Shank was a first teamer in 2014 and 2015 and also Rookie of the Year in 2014.

York freshman Tyler Newton was the lone Spartan to claim All-CAC recognition, placing sixth overall to land on the first team.

In additon to claiming Player of the Year accolades, CNU's Sam Robinson was also named the 2016 winner of the Andrew Geyer Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award. The award, presented by Wesley College in honor of former Wolverine standout Andrew Geyer, recognizes a CAC golfer annually for "outstanding academic credentials, athletics, citizenship and community service."

Robinson, a graduate student from Norfolk, Va., has excelled on the course, in the classroom, and in the community for the Captains. He is the CNU golf team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative and boasted a 3.92 grade point average last fall. Robinson also volunteers with the First Tee of the Virginia Peninsula, a non-profit youth development organization focused on providing young people with educational programs to build character and instill life-enhancing values.
