Harrisburg’s Shank Wins Gettysburg Invitational

Abbottstown, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg men's golf team started their spring season today among some solid competition at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational.  The Lions did well as a team earning a 5th place finish while the story of the night was Tyler Shank's (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) individual tournament win.

Shank is only a freshman, but he is already leading by example on the Lions young squad consisting of only two upper classmen.   Saturday at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational which was played at the Bridges Golf Club, Shank won his first collegiate tournament of his career.  It was so close it took a tiebreaker to be named champion out of the 62 participants.

Schools like Dickinson, Elizabethtown, York, and Gettysburg were some of the strong local competition attending the tournament.  Harrisburg had solid performances from Mark Paradise (Moscow, Pa. / North Pocono), Tyler Serres (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity), and Matthew Hoare (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) who finished 22nd, 26th, and 27th to help the Lions earn a 5th place overall finish.

McDaniel shot a +22, 310 for the team win; followed by Dickinson, York, and Gettysburg who finished 2nd through 4th.  Harrisburg and Shank will take the momentum from today and get ready for the Camp Lejuene Invitational in Jacksonville N.C. next weekend.  Saturday's finish was arguably the Lions best performance to date and is a great start to their spring championship season.
