How It Happened

A poor shooting night halted Penn State Harrisburg's recent momentum in a 72-61 loss at Messiah on Tuesday night, Nov. 26.

The Lions (4-2) struggled shooting from beyond the arc and from the free throw line, with the team going just 4-for-24 from 3-point range and 9-of-19 from the charity stripe.

Zegary Scott III led the way with 17 points, while Nate Curry recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dylan Daniels also added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards and Kalonji Parker chipped in with 11 points off the bench.

The Blue & White got out to a 10-4 advantage in the early going behind a strong start from Chris Haynes but the Falcons (4-1) responded with a 12-0 run that helped to set the tone for the rest of the opening half. A Curry triple and a Scott III layup kept the visitors within striking distance but Messiah added a late 3-pointer to push the lead to 31-24 at the break.

The home team began to put distance between itself and Penn State Harrisburg early in the second half when the advantage ballooned to as many as 17 points with 15:16 left to play.

Thanks to a couple of Parker jumpers from 3-point territory and a Haynes' layup, the Lions were able to pull to within single digits a few minutes later but the Blue & White couldn't cut the deficit to less than nine points until Scott III converted a free throw with just 1:34 remaining.
