How It Happened

It came down to the wire but Penn State Harrisburg eventually fell 79-69 at St. Mary's (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action on Wednesday night, Feb. 13.

The Lions (13-11, 5-8 CAC) were led by their pair of big men in Chris Bing and Kahlil Williams. Both players scored 17 points, with Bing pulling down five rebounds and Williams grabbing four boards. Brandon Coleman was the third Penn State Harrisburg player to reach double figures with 11 points.

The Blue & White fell behind by as many as 14 points early in the second half but the visitors methodically fought their way back into it thanks to an 8-0 run that was capped by an Ibn-Haneef Nelson layup and six consecutive tallies from Coleman.

Another run by Penn State Harrisburg, this time a 9-2 push finished off by a pair of Bing free throws, made it a one-possession game with 6:50 left to play. Unfortunately, a chance to tie the game was thwarted by a turnover on the Lions' ensuing trip down the floor and resulted in five straight points for the Seahawks (9-15, 3-10 CAC).

Three consecutive contested layups from Williams kept Penn State Harrisburg's hopes alive with a minute remaining but when forced to foul, the Blue & White saw their chances evaporate thanks to the home team's strong free throw shooting in crunch time.

Despite staying within striking distance for much of the night, the Lions led for just 22 seconds following a Williams layup on the team's opening possession. The visitors never trailed by more than six points in the opening half but eventually faced a 40-34 deficit at the break.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions had a rough shooting night from distance, finishing just 3-of-15 from beyond the arc.

- St. Mary's (Md.) won the battle on the glass by a 37-26 margin.

- The Seahawks scored 23 points off Penn State Harrisburg turnovers.

- Kahlil Williams was 7-of-11 from the floor en route to scoring 17 points. He added four rebounds and two assists.

- Chris Bing also netted 17 points to go along with a team-high five boards. He also went 7-of-9 from the foul line.

- Brandon Coleman finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll scored eight points, grabbed three boards and swiped two steals.

- Zegary Scott III had seven points and two rebounds.

- Zach Spooner scored a game-high 18 points to lead the way for the Seahawks.
