York, PA – Penn State Harrisburg's second half rally came up short against the #8 ranked York Spartans. The Lions would close within a point midway through the second half, but could not blemish the Spartans undefeated record. Kahlil Williams scored 17 points going 7-7 from the field and gather in 13 rebounds to lead the offense. Brandon Coleman added 15 points knocking down three three-pointers.

How It Happened:  

The Lions and Spartans traded baskets early with Anthony Bennett Jr. knocking down a deep three-pointer to tie the game at 7. Trent Thomas would gather in a rebound and lay it in giving Harrisburg its first lead of game. The Spartans would answer with an eight-point run to recapture the lead. The Lions would keep grinding inside, with Kahlil Williams and Gbolahan Alliyu scoring from the post to give the Lions a 21-20 lead midway through the first half. Tariq Bennett would get a steal and find Ibn-Haneef Nelson in transition to build on the Lions lead. The Spartans would again answer with a 17-5 late in the half and hold a ten point advantage at the break.

 

Both teams would find early offensive success in the second half, until a series of great passes lead to a wide open Brandon Coleman three-pointer, cutting the defect to seven. Chris Bing would battle in the post and score to keep pace with Spartans. The Lions kept scoring and after two free throws from Alliyu cut the Spartans lead to four with 10:24 remaining in the game. Donte Vaughn would track down a loose ball and hit a deep jump shot to keep pace. Minutes later Bing would score back-to-back layup to pull within a point of the Spartans. York would answer with a 10-0 run to regain an eleven-point lead. The Lions were unable to cut into the advantage, falling by ten points.
