Middletown, PA – Penn State Harrisburg came up just short in its CAC match-up against Mary Washington despite having five players reach double figures offensively. Trent Thomas led the Lions scoring 15 points. Brandon Coleman added 11 points by going 3-4 from behind the three-point arc. Kahlil Williams, Tariq Bennett, and Chris Bing each contributed 10 points.

How it Happened:

Penn State Harrisburg would get off to a slow start, falling behind 12-2 in the first six minutes of the game. Anthony Bennett Jr. knocked down a three-pointer to get the offense going. Tariq Bennett would knock down jump shots on back-to-back possessions cut the Eagles lead to one. Mary Washington would respond take a seven-point lead, with 4:44 remaining in the half. As they did all game, the Lions would answer with three-pointers from Brandon Coleman and Anthony Bennett Jr to close back with in one. Harrisburg found itself trailing by two points with eleven seconds reaming in the half when Tariq Bennett would come up with a steal and hit a deep three-pointer in transition giving the Lions the halftime lead.

 

The Lions would carry that momentum into the early minutes of the second half with Trent Thomas hitting a three-pointer giving Harrisburg a seven-point advantage. The Eagles would go on a 13-1 run over a five-minute span midway through the half to recapture the lead. Both teams would trade baskets until Coleman hit back-to-back identical three-pointers to pull Harrisburg within one point. The Lions had a few opportunities to recapture the lead, but the Mary Washington came up with key stops preventing the comeback.
