Harrisburg Comes Up Short Against St. Mary's (Md.)

Middletown, PA.- Saturday January 16th, this afternoon the Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team faced the visiting St. Mary's (Md.) squad in their eighth conference game of the season. The Lions dominated the Seahawks throughout the first half but came up short in the second. St. Mary's went on to win 73-67. 

St. Mary's (Md.) got on the board first in the opening minutes and went on to lead 17-5 within the first five. It wasn't long before Harrisburg was making their own run. Jazmon Harris (Baltimore, Md. / Patterson) sank his first three of the day to get Harrisburg back on track. Junior Marquese Daniels  (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia Electric and Technology Charter) put Harrisburg back on top by fighting for a steal and then a layup. The Lions lead was short lived before the Seahawks were back on top by one. Jourdon Wilson (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) came through with a jumper followed by a layup from Harris. Their efforts gave Harrisburg a four point lead. Freshman Kahlil Williams (Philadelphia, Pa / Central) helped seal their lead with his second bucket of the day.  Harrisburg led, 35-29, going into halftime. 

Freshman Gbolahan Alliyu (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) had the crowd on their feet in the first minute of the second by dunking the ball over the head of the Seahawks defense. Harris added to this excitement with two back to back jumpers. St. Mary's responded with their own three and a new found sense of urgency. The visitors fought back to tie the game up at 57 with eight minutes to go. The Seahawks went on to lead by five with less then five minutes on the clock. Wilson brought Harrisburg within two with a layup. St. Mary's began to pull away with 1:42 left in the game. Penn State Harrisburg could not come up with a basket to stop the Seahawks from pulling ahead. Harris paced the Lions with 15 points and two rebounds. 

Penn State Harrisburg will have a three game home stretch over the next two weeks. Harrisburg will host Wesley on Wednesday January 20th at 8 pm.
