Middletown, PA – The Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team fought through the wintery conditions to play its final game against the Christopher Newport Captains Saturday February 21st. Seniors Alberto De Los Santos (East Pennsboro, Pa. / East Pennsboro) and Joey Farthing (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) both had strong performances in what was the final game of their collegiate careers.
The Captains pounced early taking a 9-2 lead right from the start, but Harrisburg was prepared for the challenge and responded by scoring seven straight to tie the game at nine with 14:11 to play in the first. Neither team was able to make any headway and found themselves all tied up at 28 going into the second half.
Christopher Newport came out in the second half on a 6-0 run in an attempt to run away early. The Lions rallied with a run of their own to tie the game again, this time 36-36 five minutes into the second half. The two teams exchanged blows for the next five minutes of play with both teams looking for the knockout punch. Christopher Newport took the lead at the 11:16 mark and was able to keep the lead for the rest of the game. Harrisburg did all it could to pull off some late game heroics but came up short and allowed the Captains to pull away late. Christopher Newport went on to win the game 66-56.
Senior Alberto De Los Santos went out with a bang on his senior day leading all scorers with 25 points. Big man Anthony Morgan (York, Pa / New Hope Academy) controlled the paint for the Blue and White scoring 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds in the season finale. Fellow senior Joey Farthing finished his college career scoring 9 points and collecting 7 rebounds in the defeat.
Penn State Harrisburg finishes its 2014-2015 season with a record of 3-22, but fought to the final whistle in nearly every contest all season long. Harrisburg's work rate and attitude combined with a strong recruiting class still has the Lion faithful excited about the future of the young program.
