Lions Unable to hold off Top Seeded Seahawks

Middletown, PA – Penn State Harrisburg Men's basketball team faced off against the St. Mary's Seahawks Saturday January 31st.  The Lions were coming off a big win over rival York this past Wednesday, beating the Spartans 65-57.

From the start of the game, the Lions refused to give the conference leading Seahawks any breathing room and used a strong defensive first half effort to keep the game tight.  They had plenty of fast break points as well as some great shooting from Senior Joey Farthing (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) who scored six of his 13 points in the first half.

Unfortunately after playing dead even with the 12-4 Seahawks for the first twenty minutes, St. Mary's  was able to show why they are the top team in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in the second half.

Despite the impressive play from the visitor's, Harrisburg kept the game tight by playing as a unit and fighting hard for every possession.  With eight minutes remaining the Lions got within seven, but every time they came within reach of the Seahawks, the visitors Nicholas LaGuerre had the answer.  LaGuerre finished the game scoring 29 points.

The Blue and White got a great performance from forward Anthony Morgan (York, Pa / New Hope Academy) who claimed his first double-double with the Lions by scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Penn State Harrisburg will need to find some late season magic if they have any chance of claiming one of the final playoff spots.  They host Frostburg St. this upcoming Wednesday night at 8:00 pm.
