Penn State Harrisburg Summer Camp Registration Now Open

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg has announced that a number of the school's athletic programs will again be hosting their annual summer camps, beginning in June. Registration for all nine camps is now open.

 

The baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball programs will each host camps run by each team's head coach, assistant coaches and Blue & White players.

Baseball

REGISTER NOW 

Date: July 8-11 (rain date July 12)

Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost: $200

Age: Players entering grades 2-12

 

Overview: Participants will learn fundamentals as taught by Penn State Harrisburg head coach Ryan Bown, assistant coaches and Penn State Harrisburg players. All facets of baseball will be covered, including hitting, throwing, fielding, pitching, catching, base running, game situations, baseball's mental side and more. Campers will receive personalized individual instruction while participating in drills, games and competitions throughout the week. All campers will receive a t-shirt to be worn the last day of camp. Each camper will be responsible for packing their own lunch, as meals are not included.

Boys' Basketball

Time: Overnight Lodger: 7:30 a.m. – 8:45 p.m. / Full-Day Commuter: 8:45 a.m. – 8:45 p.m. / Partial Day Commuter: 8:45 – 4:30 p.m.

Age: Players entering grades 5-12

 

Overview: Campers come in all ages, sizes and abilities, each with their own needs. Built on head coach Don Friday's 25 years of experience running basketball camps, each participant's instructional program is focused on improving the player's fundamental skills. Instruction includes daily skills and lectures and demonstrations, along with small group drills and instructional stations. Time is also set aside for extra help and individual instruction. Participants will demonstrate the skills they learn by putting them to use in 1-on-1 games, skills competitions, 3-on-3 and full 5-on-5 camp games. Enrolled campers receive a t-shirt and basketball. Campers will also receive an individualized end of camp "report card" with tips and workout plans to help continue their development.

 

Meal option are included in the cost of admission:

LEARN 2 LEAD Girls' Basketball

Age: Players entering grades 2-9

 

Overview: A girls' basketball camp that is more than just basketball drills and skill development on the court. At "LEARN2LEAD" campers will learn about the importance of building relationships among teammates, coaches, parents, siblings and how those concepts positively influence life on and off the court. We will have classroom sessions that will challenge campers to become better students, players, and siblings; all adding up to a well-rounded basketball player and person. Do you have a desire to improve your basketball IQ as well as your leadership IQ? Then this is the camp for you. Come learn how to win on and off the court, with Penn State Harrisburg's "LEARN2LEAD" Girls' Basketball Camp.

Overview: Penn State Harrisburg's soccer camp will focus on teaching athletes proper ball skills, as well as the mental and tactical side of the game, all while having a blast with old friends and new faces. Players will be separated into teams based on age and ability so all campers are able to get the most out of their camp experience. Goalkeepers will also receive separate, specific training each day of camp.

Girls' Soccer

Softball

Overview: A typical day at Penn State Harrisburg's Softball Camp is filled with games and drills to teach the fundamentals of the game. Your daughter will be placed in a group of similar-aged and/or similar-skilled campers and receive one-on-one instruction from our camp counselors. We focus on offensive and defensive skills during the morning session, then practice a "Softball Olympic" skill that will prepare the campers for our end of week "Softball Olympics" competition where we crown "Camp Champs" for each skill group. Afternoons are spent scrimmaging and playing a variety of softball skill-focused games. During afternoon sessions we have specific activities for pitchers and catchers where your daughter will get one-on-one instruction from our college pitchers and catchers.

Tennis

Cost: $165 (Team discount available for three or more players from same school)

Age: Players entering grades 6-12

 

Overview: Penn State Harrisburg's Tennis Academy is under the direction of head coach Becky Cecere, USPTA Elite Professional and Specialist in Competitive Player Development. The camp is designed to develop strong fundamentals and competitive habits at all levels. The focus will be on technical improvement, court awareness, speed and footwork training, shot selection, offense/defense and strengthening basic fundamentals. The rules and code will be part of the discussion, as well as the expectations of good sportsmanship. Players will be grouped based on skill level. Doubles skills and strategy and court positioning will also be taught. Information on the expectations for high school and college play will be presented, along with an overview of the college athletic experience and how it differs from high school. Younger players with previous tennis experience will be welcomed on an individual basis. All campers will receive a t-shirt.

Girls' Volleyball

Day Camp Overview: Penn State Harrisburg's volleyball program is hosting a special camp focused on improving skills necessary to play successful volleyball. Come join Coach Burkett and her staff to learn all skills of the game, take part in demonstrations, and participate in small, personal group drills and stations. Sessions are structured to meet each camper's individual needs.

 

Residential Camp Overview: Penn State Harrisburg's volleyball program is hosting a unique camp focused on improving skills necessary to play successful volleyball. Join Coach Burkett and her staff to learn essential skills for the game, be involved demonstrations and take part in small, personal group drills, stations and video analysis. Throughout the camp, athletes will develop individual skills, as well as compete in 6-v-6 play, before ending the final day with a camp-wide tournament. A full, overnight package is available, as is a full-day commuter package that allows campers to be picked up following the conclusion of camp at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A partial-commuter package is also available, allowing campers to be picked up at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
