Lions Walk-Off Twice Against Bullets

Middletown Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg Baseball picked up two walk-off victories over Gettysburg College while battling the rain and challenging field conditions. In game one, the Lions entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing by two runs. Bret Williams led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. The Blue & White would then load the bases for Tyler Aug who delivered with a hard hit ball to the short stop, securing the victory. In game two, with the game tied at four in the bottom of the fifth inning and darkness rapidly approaching, Zachary Koroneos delivered a walk off homerun to center field.

How it Happened:

Harrisburg battled wet and rainy conditions all day, making every element of the game more challenging. The Lions offense struck in the first inning. After a pair of walks and a Casey Winters single, Chris Iocca singled to right field driving in the game's first two runs. After a solo home run by the Bullets in the top of the second inning, the Lions would answer. Jackson Struve singled and worked his way into scoring position for Bret Williams who hit a fly ball to right, scoring Struve. The Lions not be able to keep the lead as Gettysburg used a three run fourth inning to capture a one run advantage entering the sixth inning. Chase Smith would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to left field. The Bullets would answer scoring in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead. Bret Williams led of the Lions rally with a solo home run to left field, his fifth of the season. The Lions would load the bases and with one out Tyler Aug would delivere with a hard hit ball to the short stop that scored Iocca giving the Lions the victory.

 

The Blue & White found themselves down by three after the first inning of game two, but they had an answer. With a runner on first, Casey Winters tripled of the center field fence cutting into the deficit. Zachary Koroneos followed that up with a single that scored Winters making it a 3-2 game. The After the Bullets added another run in the top of the second inning the Lions started another rally. Struve singled and advanced to third on an error setting up Ryan McSorely who doubled to right field. Smith would follow with a single scoring McSorely, making it a 4-4 ball game. Both teams would remain deadlocked a four, and with darkness approaching the umpires announced the fifth inning would be the last inning of game two. The Bullets were unable to produce a run in the top half of the inning. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Koroneos would blast a ball deep to right center field off the scoreboard, securing the walk off victory.
