Eight Batters Record RBI's as Lions Pick Up First Win

Harrisonburg, VA – Penn State Harrisburg's Baseball team used a complete team effort to pick up its first win of the season over Eastern Mennonite. The Lions had eight different batters drive in runs, led by Alex Cline who went 4-5 in the game. The Lions got five solid innings on the mound from Mark Artley who only allowed three hits.

How it Happened:

Alex Cline got the Lions on the board first when he singled to drive in Miguel Torres in the second inning. East Mennonite would answer scoring two runs in third inning to capture the lead. Harrisburg had an answer in the fourth inning when Scott Augstadt Jr. hit behind the runners allowing Torres to score again. Cline would follow that up with a single to left field bringing in Casey Winters. The Blue & White would take control of the game in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and only one out, Chase Smith put a ball in play allowing Winters to score. The Lions would once again load the bases for Tyler Aug who drew a walk, scoring another run. Finally, Ethan Kell would blast a ball through the left side to drive Smith and put the Lions up 7-2.

 

Mark Artley controlled Royals batters only allowing three hits while striking out four batters in five innings of action. Tristan James would come on in relief in the sixth inning. James struck out six Royals while allowing only three more hits.   

 

The Lions offense would add six hits and four runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Harrisburg would get RBI's from Ryan Kennington, Austin Baker and Torres. On the day, Harrisburg recorded 17 hits including four doubles.

Afterwards Head Coach Ryan Bown said, "We had a much better approach offensively today and we had a lot of key at-bats from guys off the bench which is exciting to see. Adds depth and healthy competition to our team."
