Penn State Harrisburg Takes Down #1 Frostburg State

Frostburg, Md.- After clinching their first-ever Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) playoff spot this weekend with a win over #11 Salisbury, the Penn State Harrisburg baseball team traveled to the #1 seeded Frostburg State this afternoon to take on the Bobcats. The Lion's dominated Frostburg, scoring 9 straight runs in just two innings. Harrisburg went on to beat the Bobcats, 14-0.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first three innings but Tom Denniston got things started in the fourth with a sacrificed fly ball out to left field. In the fifth, David Klein grabbed two of his three RBI's with a single up the middle, advancing Scott Angstadt Jr. and Travis VanHouten. Josh Brubaker added one more to the Lion's tally as he scored on a throwing error by the Bobcat's third baseman. Denniston added a single to the board before VanHouten tripled down the line to bring in three RBI's for the Blue and White. At the end of the fifth, the Lion's led Frostburg State 9-0.

As the sixth inning got underway, Harrisburg showed they were not slowing down offensively. Denniston, Josh Brubaker, and David Klein each hit a single to add three more runs for Harrisburg. In the eighth inning, Angstadt singled to left field as Connor Bowers ran home. Brubaker brought in Harrisburg's final run of the afternoon with a single to center field, advancing Angstadt to home plate off of a fielding error by the Bobcat's center fielder. Denniston, Klein, and VanHouten led for the Lion's with three RBI's each. Freshman Mark Artley dominated on the mound for Harrisburg with a stellar pitching performance. Artley pitched seven straight innings, giving up only two hits, while also striking out 11 batters.

After the Lion's big win, head coach Ryan Bown stated, "It was one of those games where everything worked out as planned. Mark did a great job of setting the tone on the mound and everyone else followed." Penn State Harrisburg will now face #4 Wesley on Thursday April 21st at 12:30 pm.
